Year of projects - 21.10.12

Well, being Sunday, it's the time for my progress report....and despite achieving a few new goals, I don't really have anything spectacular to show.

This is my  start on Oor Flap Muts....I won't lie....I'm afraid there's been a lot of holding my breath and..... ashamedly..... some swearing.  The ear flaps (oor flaps) were a relative breeze, ooh, and I learnt how to knit i-cord ....but making the hat with a two-colour Italian cast-on off the pre-made ear flaps, was fairly dreadful, and getting the first row into the cast-on was like nothing else.....but I made it out the other side unscathed!

Because it is brioche knitting, it is totally reversible...so really quite clever.

That's it for YOP related work....I am chuntering along with a few other things, but they aren't really project work.

We went out for a glorious walk late this afternoon, I took loads of photos to try and catch the colours, but it was sooo hard.  The evening sun just made everything glow, and I even did a little tree-hugging which I've become accustomed to on a weekend.  Some of the trees were totally moss-covered and were so soft to touch.

And just to finish, these are the legs of middle who represented his school in a county cross country running competition....he did well.....and he got pretty muddy too!

Hope that you've all had good weeks, thank you so much for your constant encouragement and general 'loveliness'....its like having your own personal cheerleading team....much appreciated!

  1. Oh my goodness Faith! You are a braver lady than I am; that knitting project looks really tricky (but very lovely :-)) I too would have held my breath but no cursing of course! ;-)

  2. LOL...laughed at the mention of your swearing. I'd do it too. That CO sounds complicated. But you're off and what a terrific start you have so far on the needles.
You have such beautiful pics of your walks. I hope you frame a few. And I smiled at your boy's muddy legs. Ah sigh...children are so uninhibited yeah?

  7. Just the thought of a two colour Italian cast on has me holding my breath - I'm going to have to google it to see how it works. I've done two colour Turkish cast ons for socks, but I've never even heard of an Italian cast on. There's always more to learn, isn't there?

Love the neutral colours you've chosen!

  9. Really love the hat and very brave of you, I'm not sure I'd do a project like that so I think a little swearing is allowed!

Love the forest picture, we are due to head out to our forest again, I'm just trying to get the energy up lol.

Thank you for your lovely comments especially about the crochet I don't think I am one yet I have not attempted to read a pattern yet so when I can do that then I may consider myself a crocheter!

I to am looking forward to a less tight routine on mid term break, I know I'll still be up and about but there will be less clock watching and running to time hopefully.

Hope you have a good week.

  12. "Italian cast-on" sounds wonderfully elegant - did you swear in Italian? (It doesn't count in another language, you know.) :)

That hat looks amazingly cosy and cushy. Isn't I-cord fun?

Lovely tree photo and congrats to Middle on a successful muddy run.

I'd love to hear what you think, and I won't be asking you to jump through hoops (or fill in a captcha) to do it.............
