Year of projects 11.03.12

Well as March is zooming on by, the weather is slowly becoming warmer and the light intensity is changing.  My walks this week with the dogs, have been a guilty pleasure not a chore.

We've just got back from a lovely Sunday afternoon run on the beach and I took loads of lovely photos of the boys and the dogs.....but this one just about sums my family up........

My hubby was saying why is it we can't go to the beach without one of the three boys getting sopping.  This is my oldest boy pulling the littlest out of a rock pool which ended up coming up to his waist.....wellies are a waste of time in my boys' world!

Our walk was lovely and I was toasty warm..............guess why..........I've finished, its not a masterpiece but it is done and comfortable.

I have completed my first jumper........it was initially too short despite lengthening the pattern, so I ended up knitting two panels and stitching them to the bottom, it isn't invisible but it makes a unwearable jumper wearable.

If I keep up my walking over the next couple of months, I feel it will probably fit me a little better.....my poor son had a hard job to take photos where I am saying try not to get my double chin in.....try not to get my tummy in...etc...etc....  I was being a very difficult model!

So there you have it, another project ticked off the list......having just completed something knitty I feel I have the bit between my teeth and I'm itching to try something else, which is interesting as I came in to this, to crochet.  I don't think I am getting ahead of myself, but I do fancy pushing a little more.

Well.......time for herding children and dogs me thinks......catch up with other Year of Projects work here.  I know I will be later on.

Thanks for all the moral support and holding of hands during my first big knitting project, much appreciated.....as in all speeches....'I could not have done this without you!'

I will leave you with another pic of all the sandy ones........

  1. You're so lucky to live near the beach but I bet you need that jumper when the wind blows! It's lovely, by the way, I've never had the patience for knitting clothes, it was always stuff for the home I preferred xxx

  2. Your sweater looks great! Good thinking, adding the panels at the bottom. I figure with kids, if you can manage an hour without injury or tears, you're doing well :)

  4. Hey Faith it looks lovely! What a clever way to lengthen it... I think you have improved the pattern! Looks like a lovely day on the beach... you'll soon be there with suntan lotion and beach towels :)x

  5. What a fantastic brother to help out his little brother!! That is so lovely, I'm sure my eldest would have left his brother in the rock pool!!
Your jumper looks wonderful, you have done a magnificent job. I think for a first time big project it looks completely perfect!! xx

  6. Jumper is beautiful. A trip to the beach wouldn't be right if someone didn't get wet, its all part of the fun :)

  8. Woo Hoo! I am SO impressed!!!! It is wonderful! Now then, about boys and water ... it is just a match made in Heaven. Kind of like tea and crumpets or Peanut Butter and Jelly. That kind of thing. It just is. :)

  10. I LOVE that jumper and am incredibly impressed that you made it. I like the panel on the bottom, it looks intentional.
Love the photos of the kids and water!!
I took the youngest to the beach yesterday as well, and we had a few fully dressed in the water mishaps, but it is much warmer here than Wales I imagine

  11. I think adding length to your sweater just looks like the pattern called for more texture. It looks great. Congrats on getting it done and being able to wear it. Little boys and water...always a disastrous combination. They don't know how to stay dry.

  12. It looks fantastic! (The jumper I mean, although the beach looks pretty wonderful too.) I like it better with the panels on the bottom, and on the sleeves. They really jazz it up.

There's no point in going to the beach if you're not planning to get wet, is my motto. I always have to stick at least my feet in the water, even if it's February (which I did in California last month). Lucky you to live so near the ocean.

  13. Good going you! The sweater (Jumper) turned out gorgeous and it looks good and warm too. I would totally never guess that your lengthening panels weren't part of the original pattern. I sure enjoyed your snaps of the boys--I have 3 boys too, and although they are pretty grown up compared to yours, I sure remember those dirty, muddy, wet, sandy days.

  14. Haha, I had to giggle when I saw that picture of your boys. Love that jumper, what pattern did you use? I never made a jumper, I should though....

  15. Your jumper is absolutely terrific! It looks so soft and pro; it fits you well.
I LOL'd at that first pic of your boys. Maybe fisherman wellies that got up to their arm pits? I love seeing how your oldest pulled his little brah out of the tidepool.

  17. When mine were young we lived near a moor, I used to say they were practising to be bog snorklers when they grew up, the amount of muddy water I emptied from wellies, washed off clothes and showered off kids ... I feel your rock pool pain!

Your first completed full-size knitted garment is just the hugest thing ... mega well done, especially as you were able to solve the 'too short' problem so effectively :D

  18. Oh dear, that reads like I mean your sweater is huge ... eek! What I hope you know I meant was that it's a major achievement. Well done :D

  19. I like the photo of biggest brother helping littlest, it's great that they help each other out.
I'm very impressed by your jumper and the additional panels look as if they should have been part of the original design. Such a good idea. I've yet to try knitting anything other than a couple of squares, crochet seems easier somehow, but I would like to be able to knit myself a cardigan one day...

  20. It's one of the loveliest feelings to wear something you've made yourself ... it gives you a special spring in your step.

You should be really pleased with your sweater ... it looks very cosy ... and perfect for a visit to the beach.

    Happy Knitting
    Fleur xx

I'd love to hear what you think, and I won't be asking you to jump through hoops (or fill in a captcha) to do it.............
